Contest Winners

We would like to congratulate our winners from the 2009 “Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer” Room Box Contest!

Our 1st place winner was Susan Klein from Brookfield, CT and she submitted a room box with the theme of “Cape Cod Cottage”.  When she was growing up, her family used to travel to Cape Cod every summer and spend a week.  The two pictures above the couch are paintings of actual places on the Cape that she snapped from her friends’ orginal, real-life pictures.  She went as far as miniaturizing a few pages from the Cape Cod Times to spread out on the porch and deck.  Susan states that 97% of this room box is made from scratch.  Susan’s wonderful, nostalgic Cape Code summer house on the beach is beautifully handcrafted and artistically decorated.  Every detail is a fine example of our theme and it just makes you smile and relax to look at it!  Congratulations Susan!!

Klein - Winner 1-1             Klein - Winner 1-2  Klein - Winner 1-3  Klein - Winner 1-4

Our 2nd place winner is Colleen Broughton from Springfield, MO.  Summer to Colleen is a lazy time in the backyard, taking time to enjoy nature and gardening as depicted in her room box submission.  Growing beautiful flowers and Bonsai trees are among her passions!   We loved the happy folks enjoying their backyard, from the potting bench to the fan in the window, it is a very fine miniature creation.  Congratulations Colleen!!

Broughton - Winner 2-4

 Broughton - Winner 2-1  Broughton - Winner 2-2

Our 3rd place winner is Yvonne Pusateri from Avalon, PA.   Imagine a splash in the pool on a hot day, followed by a cold drink, delicious dessert and then a nap in the hammock!  Yvonne created another fine example of summer pleasure.  Congratulations Yvonne!!

Pusateri - Winner 3-1

We had fun with our first contest and look forward to trying another contest early next year.  Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.  We really enjoyed seeing everybody’s photos!  Thank you to everyone who entered our first contest!

Thank you RGT for my prize! The beautiful new dollhouse you gave me (Lincoln’s Springfield Home) arrived yesterday and it’s going to be so much fun to put together! It is a very nice prize and I do appreciate it very much. I can’t wait for you to roll out another contest because I had so much fun making this one. Thanks again, and God bless you, Colleen Broughton

I am a beginner, and I will be constructing my very first dollhouse as a Christmas present for my seven year old daughter. I only plan on completing one room, but I would like to wire the entire house. The work displayed above is excellent! Where can I find miniatures (like the arbor or the window fan)?

  3. Susan Says:

Thank you so much! I loved every minute I spent creating my Cape Cod Roombox and am so appreciative to RGT for chosing it. And the other roomboxes, from Colleen and Yvonne, are wonderful! I am honored to be in such company. And I am so looking forward to working on the Foxhall Manor. What a beautiful home it is! Thank you again!!

Yes, we were proud of our contestants. They did some remarkable work. Since I’m not sure where you are from, I will point you to the store finder on our website. Just put in your state and you will find stores in your area that carry all types of miniatures. Get in touch with a miniature store and they will be happy to lead you in the right direction on your hunt for miniatures. Also check out our Merchant Spotlight. These stores have links to their websites that might prove helpful as well. We are so happy you are going to venture into the wonderful world of dollhouses and miniatures. Best of luck from Real Good Toys!

THANK YOU for choosing my roombox as third prize in your contest. I was truly shocked and would definitely enter another contest if you ever have one. It was lots of fun coming up with the idea.
I purchased my miniatures from LYNLOTT MINIATURES here in ASPINWALL PA. GREAT PEOPLE.
To A. BASKERVILLE, I made the arbor from square pieces and stained it.
Again, thanks so much, I look forward to making the CONTEMPORAY DOLLHOUSE.
