Merchant Spotlight: Chautauqua Miniatures, Mayville, NY

To kick off this new feature, we are spotlighting Chautauqua Miniatures of Mayville, NY.

Sandra Duffee and Heather Johnson are both miniature fanatics. They worked at The Chautauqua Institution for many years. Sandra was the assistant to the Vice President and Heather ran the Horticulture Department for 15 years. Mrs. Pearson, the owner of their local miniature shop, decided to retire. Sandra and Heather were her loyal customers and one day Heather stopped at Mrs. Pearson’s shop only to have their dream come true. So they quit their jobs, got a loan and they were in business, and they’ve never looked back! They absolutely love their shop and working with their customers. Last year they expanded and opened a very unique gift shop right next to their mini shop called 2 Chixx Gift Shoppe.

Their favorite custom projects are retirement boxes, or memory boxes that they create for their customers, featuring unusual containers to house the collections in. They have worked in lanterns, brief cases, old drawers, etc. They also help their customers figure out how to do their own as well. There isn’t any project they won’t tackle!

So many of their customers have become good friends, it’s like one big happy family. Sandra and Heather love to get everyone to interact and talk about their projects with one another. Their customers come from all over the country and all over the world! Special items in the store include hand crafted pieces from every artisan they can find, as well as the full line of commercial items. Dollhouses of every kind are available in kit or finished form, and, of course, lots of room boxes.

They have a hardware and lumberyard section filled with wood, paint, trims, windows, doors, flooring, carpets, bricks, shingles, fancy trims and carvings, electrical components and lighting. They carry good sturdy dollhouse dolls as well as exquisite one of a kind porcelain dollhouse dolls. They have many display cases that feature miniatures for every room in your dollhouse, and then some! They also offer full size instructional books and of course, their expert advice.
