A Fond Farewell to Our Friends at Once Upon A Time in Vienna, VA

I remember the first time I met Lynne and Laurie, it was at a tradeshow.  My first impression was they love what they do and it shows!  They were so knowledgeable and funny and I really enjoyed visiting with them.  They loved attending the many tradeshows each year, always in search of the classic minis as well as the very unique, one-of-a-kind items their shop was famous for selling.

In 1981, Once Upon A Time opened for business!  Three years later they moved to the 120 Church Street location where they have been a part of the Vienna community for the last 27 years.  The store and its owners evolved with the times and were always willing to try something new.  They were constantly looking for new ways to improve the business while still retaining the same charm they’re known for.  If they didn’t have that particular dollhouse or miniature you wanted, they’d do everything they could to find the precise item to make you happy.  Because at the end of the day, that’s what it was all about…making their customer’s happy!

We’ve already heard from many of their customers and how sad they are to see them close their doors.  For 30 years they have made many a person’s dollhouse and miniature dreams come true.  With their fabulous enthusiasm and wonderful customer service, Lynne, Laurie and the gang at Once Upon A Time have truly shown their customers how much they care.  It’s definitely going to leave a big gap in the mini world.

On one hand, all us at Real Good Toys are deeply saddened by the closing of Once Upon A Time’s store in Vienna, VA.  But on the other hand, we’re also very hopeful for their future endeavors and wish them nothing but the best!  May your next 30 years be even more successful than the last 30.  We are truly proud to call each of you our friends!  Farewell and good luck!

I grew up going to Once Upon a Time with my mother. We always loved going in for birthday and christmas gifts. It was a big family tradition for us. They will be greatly missed!

So sad to hear this news. Although I grew up in the area, I hadn’t discovered Once Upon A Time until 2010! I took my niece there when I was visiting from Atlanta and bought her a lot of wonderful items. The store owners are wonderful people. They will truly be missed.

I also grew up in the area and that store was “the place” to go for dolls, bears and miniature furniture. I left Vienna seven years ago but not before stopping at that store just one more time. Best wishes for whatever you are going to do next. Is that big beautiful cat still there?

When I was little my mom would take me to Once Upon a Time all the time. When my mom died in 1996 before my 11th birthday the owners there allowed me to “work” at the store and made me feel like I was doing something worthwhile. I still remember all the days I spent there taging merchandise and organizing the dollhouse things. My mom and I both had a love for dolls and miniatures and I’ll never forget the time spent at Once Upong A Time. Thank you for being a bright spot in my childhood.

    Dear Lynn and Laurie,
So sorry to see Once Upon A Time close but certainly understand the circumstances. We will all miss your smiling faces at the shows and voices on the phone. It was a great journey this past 22 years since I have been with Houseworks. I will always remember the wonderful times we had in New Orleans and visiting your mother. I do hope that the years ahead will be good ones and wish you both well in your new journey.

We will all miss you both and Once Upon A Time!

When ever I was in in the area, I would stop at Once Upon a Time. The owners were so kind and helpful. The day before they closed, I was there with my son. The owner came out to greet us and asked if this was the son that bought my first dollhouse. I told her the story about two years earlier. They cared about their customers and it showed.

I am so sorry to learn that my favorite toy store has closed! I am living in CA now and just recommended my friend in VA take her grandchildren to shop there. I was pregnant with my first child in 1981 when I first found this amazing store. Thank you for many years of magic!
