Merchant Spotlight: Just Miniature Scale, Greensburg, PA

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

When you experience Just Miniature Scale in Greensburg, PA, you think “activity”.  What goes on in just one week at Just Miniature Scale could satisfy all dollhouse and miniature collectors!   Each week new friends and old come to share stories, pictures and memories of their collections.  The staff prides themselves on having an inviting, old fashioned shop that keeps people coming back.  The shop is 30 miles east of Pittsburgh in a quaint area of downtown.  Just Miniature Scale is on the same street where shop owner, Judy Mizikar, grew up. Her family still lives a few blocks away. Because the shop is easy to travel to from all of western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio, Judy has been able to stay and grow in the town that she loves. Surprise from Arizona!

I am always getting emails from customers who build our dollhouses and a lot of times they end up sending photos – which is completely wonderful!  Recently, Phyllis M. from Surprise, AZ sent us a slew of photos to check out.  Phyllis herself has wanted a real dollhouse for 53 years and her dream finally came true with the purchase of a Victoria’s Farmhouse dollhouse kit.  (more…)

John and Margot inspect dollhouse details

I’ve been visiting John and Julio for several weeks, helping them with their wiring and with bits-and-pieces of the dollhouse building and decorating process.  Some of the things we do when I’m there are things I’m good at, some of the things are brand new for me (last night I hooked-up the ‘glowing embers’ circuitry for a fireplace).

One of the things that really impresses me whenever I visit is how many of the folks that live there drop by for a moment of admiration or a conversation about the progress and process of this dollhouse build.  Each new step in the assembly brings a fresh review of where we are and where we’re going, and there is a background humm of activity and interest that circles around this project.  (more…)

Do not miss this amazing dollhouse video!

I was delighted to find this wonderful YouTube video on my facebook page today. It features the Great American Dollhouse Museum and showcases a brilliant collection of historical, contemporary and fantasy miniatures and dollhouses. Of course it was wonderful to see so many beautiful Real Good Toys dollhouses were on display. It’s truly AMAZING!

Have a good day.  Chris

Building a Dollhouse for the First Time

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Yesterday, I talked with a first-time dollhouse builder who was pre-reading the instructions (super!) and asking about the details.  I am always touched by the excitement of the first-time builder.  It’s filled with the dream of the finished dollhouse and, sometimes, it’s also a dream of the process; the hands-on delight of doing something together with a child or grandchild.  There’s often a story of a doll house “when I was young”… It’s really dazzling!  I usually get involved when they see all the pieces and wonder where to start.  Here’s my 5-step plan for making dollhouse-building easy for the first-time builder: (more…)
